The Aspen Institute has named Mitchell Technical College an Aspen Prize Top 150 U.S. Community College.
Mitchell Tech is now eligible to compete for the $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, the nation’s signature recognition of high achievement and performance among America’s community colleges. The 150 selected colleges are invited to submit data and narratives for the next step in the process for the bi-annual Aspen Prize, with the announcement of the $1 million Prize winner in the spring of 2023.
President Mark Wilson credits Mitchell Tech’s dedicated employees for once again being named an Aspen Prize Top 150 U.S. Community College.
“On behalf of the Mitchell Tech Leadership Team, congratulations to our hardworking staff and faculty for achieving the standards of the Aspen Institute. We are once again honored to receive this recognition,” Wilson said.
The Aspen Prize spotlights the colleges doing the best work and looks at a pool of more than 1,000 public, two-year colleges.
“Leaders of exceptional community colleges understand that achieving excellence requires expanding college access and increasing degree completion, but it doesn’t stop there.
They are committed to ensuring that all students—including students of color and those from low-income backgrounds—graduate with the skills needed to secure a job with family-sustaining wages or successfully transfer to and graduate from a university,” said Josh Wyner, executive director of the Aspen Institute College Excellence Program.
The 150 colleges named are located in urban, rural, and suburban areas across 34 states and serve as few as 230 students to as many as 57,000. In this first round, eligibility for the Aspen Prize is based on publicly available data. Eligible colleges must show strong and improving student outcomes in key areas such as retention, completion, transfer, and equity.
