Rod Bowar Memorial Scholarship

Rod owned Kennebec Telephone Company, providers of telephone, cable TV and internet service to Kennebec, Presho and rural Lyman County. He joined the company in 1977 and purchased it in 1998. Rod was passionate about providing the best opportunities possible for his family and community. He served on many different boards and committees, including serving on the Mitchell Technical College Foundation Board. Two of Rod’s children were Mitchell Tech grads, and his businesses employ multiple Mitchell Tech graduates.

Harv and Peggy Kelley Endowed Scholarship

Incoming Student
Wi-Fi and Broadband/Telecommunications
Applicant must currently be an accepted Incoming full-time student enrolled in the Wi-Fi and Broadband/Telecommunications program Applicant must be a resident of a community within a 50-mile radius of Mitchell. Applicant must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA (universal financial aid application form) Applicant must maintain 3.0 or higher GPA Applicant must complete the MTC Online Incoming student application to be eligible for this scholarship.

Applicant must be an accepted full-time student enrolled at MTC in one of the programs mentioned Applicant must complete the MTC scholarship application during the open application period as instructed to be eligible for this scholarship First priority will be given to students with ties to a SDAC member cooperative Essay responses will be a large part of the recipient decision

Gary Plagmann Memorial Scholarship

The Gary Plagmann Memorial Scholarship was established by his family in 2011. Gary was involved in the Telecommunications Industry in South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota for nearly 40 years and participated in many rural telephone company upgrades during his career.

Applicant must be a full-time current enrolled student in the Wi-Fi and Broadband/Telecom Program Applicant must be a resident of South Dakota Applicant must have a GPA of 2.5 or better Applicants must complete the MTC Online application during the open application period to be eligible for this scholarship

Communications Endowed Scholarships

The Communications fully-funded endowment was created in December, 2003. The scholarships will be awarded in January each year and applied to the recipient’s accounts the following Fall semester.

Bartels Endowed Scholarships

Keith & Glynn Bartels

Keith & Glynn Bartels have been active and instrumental members of the Mitchell Technical Institute Foundation and have a passion for education and Mitchell Technical College. They have chosen to establish a scholarship endowment with the Mitchell Technical College Foundation which provides $500 scholarships each year. The scholarships will be awarded to any Power Line recipients in January each year and applied to recipient’s account in the Spring semester. All other scholarships will be awarded in January each year and applied to the recipient’s accounts the following Fall semester.

South Dakota Cable Television Association Scholarship

The S.D. Cable Television established the scholarship in 2012. The scholarships will be awarded August 1 to accepted Incoming students who meet the listed criteria. The funds will be applied to recipient’s account the following Fall semester.

Jeffrey L. And Trudiann Nelson Rural Electric Endowment

The Jeffrey L. and Trudiann Nelson Rural Electric Endowment was established in December of 2013 in celebration of Jeff’s retirement from East River Electric. Several of Jeff’s counterparts in the industry, East River Electric, and Jeff’s family came together to complete the endowment on behalf of Jeff and his wife Trudiann in honor of Jeff’s commitment to Mitchell Tech and the industry he served. Nelson has offered his support of Mitchell Tech through his involvement in Mitchell Tech’s Strategic Advisory Committee, program Advisory boards and most recently as a member of Mitchell Tech’s Foundation Board.
