MTI Sets Fall Enrollment Record

Mitchell Technical Institute announced today that it has set another enrollment record with its largest fall enrollment ever recorded .

The total number of students enrolled is 1,274, up from 1,255 in Fall 2014 and 1,227 in Fall 2013.  That represents a 1.5% increase over last year.

According to MTI president Mark Wilson, the enrollment increase is attributable to several factors.  “Technical education is a popular choice for many of South Dakota’s students,” he said.  “Students and families know that there are great job opportunities available to technically skilled graduates.  Mitchell Tech is working closely with industry leaders, educators, state administrators and legislators to ensure that we have the highest quality options available.”

The popular Build Dakota scholarship program has generated heightened interest statewide in technical education.  The full-ride scholarships were offered to approximately 60 incoming freshmen at MTI this fall.  Also contributing to the increase is a greater number of high school students who are dual-enrolled, earning high school and college credit simultaneously.

MTI is one of four technical institutes in the state, founded in 1968.  More than 16,000 students have graduated from the school since it opened.  Recent placement data indicates that 99% of the Class of 2014 found employment within six months of graduation and 82% of those opted to remain in South Dakota.
