MTI Sets Enrollment Record

Enrollment continues to grow at a record pace at Mitchell Technical Institute with its largest enrollment ever recorded in Spring 2015.

The total number of students enrolled is 1,287, up from 1,259 in Fall 2014 and 1,222 in Spring 2013.  That represents a 5.3% increase over last year’s spring semester.

Several factors have contributed to the growth including a remarkable increase in dual enrollment of high school students, up nearly 24% since Fall 2014, and significant growth in enrollment in the South Dakota Center for Farm/Ranch Business Management.

Enrollment is projected to continue its pace with the impending rollout of the Build Dakota Scholarships.  Full ride scholarships will be available to several hundred students statewide who choose a critical need program and commit to working in the state for three years after graduation.  The Build Dakota Scholarships are being funded by a $25 million grant from T. Denny Sanford and a matching $25 million endowed commitment by the state of South Dakota.

MTI is one of four technical institutes in the state, founded in 1968.  More than 16,000 students have graduated from the school since it opened. Placement data indicates that 99% of the Class of 2013 found employment within six months of graduation and 85% of those opted to remain in South Dakota.
