Whatever your interest, you’ll find activities at Mitchell Tech that will introduce you to new friends and experiences, expand your skills and abilities, or just let you have fun. We work closely with several community organizations to provide students with a variety social and skills-related activities. Become a part of student government by applying to our Student Rep Board. Compete at a national SkillsUSA contest. Participate in intercollegiate rodeo or archery. Or join an intramural sports team. You’ll find lots to do and great people to hang out with.
Health and Wellness
Every student enrolled at MTI has free access to the DWU/Avera Sports and Wellness Complex with Great Life card. The services available at the Wellness Complex include:
- Treadmills, stair mills, cross trainers, bikes, indoor rowers, and indoor cycles
- 200-meter track
- 12 resistance training circuit machines
- Weight room

Student Representative Board
The Student Representative Board (SRB) is the voice of the student body at MTI. An annual plan of work and activities is developed by this group. Students apply to serve on this board. First year students who are selected may opt to serve a second year. A student body president serves as leader of the SRB group. The president is elected at-large by the entire student body in the spring of each year. MTI staff members serve as advisors to the SRB. Check us out on Facebook! MTI sponsors an organized Rodeo Team which travels to area college rodeos in both fall and spring. Members are responsible for their own horses, equipment, travel, and entry fees when competing. Contact Jimmie Nicolaus, MTI Mavericks Coach, for more information at 605.995.7146. Learn More
SkillsUSA offers leadership, citizenship, and character development to students enrolled in trade, technical, and health occupation programs in the technical schools in South Dakota. SkillsUSA emphasizes respect for the dignity of work, high standards in trade ethics, workmanship, scholarship, and safety. Several MTI students have won or placed at the national SkillsUSA championships held each June in Kansas City, MO. Student Veterans Organization
The MTI Student Veterans Organization assists veterans transition into the academic lifestyle, provides information on Veterans Affairs and South Dakota Department of Military and Veterans Affairs benefits, and provides a social organization that veterans feel comfortable in. The MTI Student Veterans Organization is also a member chapter of Student Veterans of America, a national coalition of student veterans groups. The MTI Diversity Club is a place to engage in activities that represent a variety of cultures. A place to learn more about many types of diversity: cultural, racial, gender, age, and economic. It's a place to get involved with important community service projects. And a place where you and your friends can have fun with some of our social activities.
