Great River Energy is seeking a Lead, Power Apparatus technician/electrician to provide for the operation, installation, testing, checkout and maintenance of substation apparatus and associated equipment on Great River Energy’s system in the North Dakota service territory. This position is located at our service center in Underwood, ND.

General Summary:

Provide for the operation, installation, testing, checkout and maintenance of substation apparatus and associated equipment on Great River Energy’s system. Responsible for directing co-worker’s in a safe manner while following GRE safety rules, procedures, and guidelines. Keeps supervisor informed of overall conditions and status of work activities.

Responsibilities

Overall Responsibilities:

  1. Administers overall workgroup activities and directs and or assists in the maintenance of the substation apparatus such as circuit breakers, transformers, voltage regulators, reclosers, mobile substations, load tap changers, station batteries and chargers, capacitor banks, circuit switches, motor operators, and associated equipment. Assigns and tracks work order(s) or job assignment(s) to the workgroup(s). Gives direction to one or more technicians in the work group.
  2. Administers overall workgroup activities and directs the installation, testing, checkout of new substation apparatus equipment.
  3. Assigns and tracks work orders or job assignments to the workgroups. Gives direction to one or more technicians.
  4. Performs routine inspection of substations, switching stations, and capacitor bank equipment.
  5. Develops and updates maintenance procedures along with maintaining equipment records in area of responsibility.

Position Details

Requirements

Education and Experience:  A two-year technical degree in electrical/computer/electronics related courses is required. A minimum of four years substation apparatus experience is preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of AC and DC circuits including Ohm’s law, power, current and voltage transformers, high voltage electrical equipment and AC power measurement, familiarity with inductance, capacitance, and power factor.
  • Skilled at effective communication that includes good interpersonal skills as well as written and verbal communication.
  • Skill and ability to use personal computers and related software including test equipment software, asset management software, Windows-based programs, and email.
  • Working ability to coordinate work or tasks and delegate to appropriate personnel.
  • Ability to be self-motivated and be able to work alone without direct supervision
