Fleet Operations Manager - Sioux Falls

This position can be located anywhere in our footprint of ND, SD, MN, and KS. Temporarily work from home.


Successfully manage Midco’s fleet by coordinating all aspects of the vehicle acquisition process, up-fitting and delivery.  Collaborate across boundaries to coordinate vehicle inspections are completed and tracked.  Develop and foster relationships throughout Midco to build an understanding of the unique fleet needs within Midco.  Create annual budgets and progress reports for both Midco fleet and Tech tool capital budgeting.  Manage Midco’s Tech tool ordering and FCC drive out processes. 


  • Effectively manage Midco’s diverse fleet of vehicle and trailers through collaboration, understanding and effective communication.
  • Collaborate across boundaries to understand the upfit needs of team members within Midco, ensure vehicle upfits meet stake holder expectations. Ensure our upfits meet job expectations.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure that monthly vehicle inspections are performed and recorded, including any local, state or federally mandated inspections.
  • Proactively manage Midco’s fleet budgeting process, ensuring spending is within budget.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders throughout Midco regarding updates to their vehicle delivery, maintenance and assist with any fleet related questions.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Field Operations Support, Directors of Field Operations and other department leaders on fleet needs and status.
  • Collaborate with the Directors of Field Operations to ensure that capital tools are budgeted for and ordered in a timely manner each year. 
  • Think strategically about Midco’s current fleet, its need as well as future needs to ensure we are well positioned for long term success.
  • Innovate with stakeholders of Midco’s fleet to drive operational savings through changing of driver behaviors.
  • Develop an understanding of Midco’s fleet, software application(s) and relevant data sets that support the operation of the fleet.
  • Place orders for the applicable vehicles to maintain a standard rotation or newly added vehicles.
  • Create reports and perform audits that support Midco’s efforts in relation to vehicles.
  • Work effectively and efficiently with internal and external customers, partners and vendors.
  • Assist in the coordination moving vehicles from fleet to auction in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate the delivery, registration of and up fitting of vehicles in remote locations.
  • Track and report on maintenance of all Midco vehicles, track fuel costs and usage, create KPI report.
  • Compile timely and accurate daily, monthly and yearly reports as requested.
  • Review and update the standard rotation guidelines for all Midco vehicles as needed.
  • Create, monitor, and report capital spend tied to vehicles
  • Understand needs, ordering and rotation of all trailers, bobcats, forklifts and other equipment.
  • Create, review and audit standard operating procedures (SOP’s) related to vehicles guidelines, rotations, up fitting, auction, and all applicable software.
  • Be ready, willing, and able to travel as required.
  • Operate and drive a Company vehicle in accordance with Midco’s “Use of Vehicle for Company Business” policy.
  • Follow and serve as a role model in displaying Midco’s Core Values and Leadership Success Drivers.
  • Adhere to Midco’s privacy guidelines to ensure each customer’s privacy.
  • Maintain regular attendance as required by your position.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and/or equivalent experience required.
  • Five to seven years’ experience in Fleet or Operations Management required.
  • Telecommunications industry experience preferred
  • Leadership experience in the fleet/transportation industry is preferred. 


  • The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or carry loads of up to 30 lbs.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderate.
  • Employees may be required to work in excess of 40 hours per week and other than normal business hours, such as holidays, evenings and weekends as business demands.
  • Ability to travel to within footprint on quarterly bases or as business requires.
