Commencement Information

Mitchell Technical Institute 2018 Graduation

Graduation is an exciting time for all students, family and MTI faculty and staff.  MTI has one graduation ceremony each year in the month of May. After reviewing the details listed here, please contact the Registrar’s Office at (605) 995-3023 if you have any questions.

General Information for Family and Friends
There is no limit to the number of guests wishing to attend the ceremony, and no admission tickets are required.  However, seating is limited, first-come, first-serve basis.  Doors of the Corn Palace will be open 2 hours prior to the ceremony time. The ceremony is approximately one and a half hours in length.

Photography
A professional photographer will take photos of each graduate as they receive their diploma. Photos can be ordered directly through the photographer's website. The photographer website link is posted on mitchelltech.edu after graduation. Guests may take their own photographs during the ceremony. Please be considerate of others in attendance and do not block the view for a unusual period of time.

Graduate Information
Students must complete a Request to Graduate form. Graduate applicants cleared to participate are encouraged to attend the commencement ceremony. This is celebration of your accomplishment to share with your classmates, faculty, family and friends.

Caps and Gowns
Black caps, gowns and MTI issued tassels must be worn by students participating in commencement. Caps, gowns and tassels may be ordered through the MTI Bookstore.

Graduation Practice
Practice for the graduates is at 11:00 AM the day of graduation in the Corn Palace. Graduates are encouraged to attend.

Lining up for Ceremony
All graduates should be in line by 4:45 in the Armory located above the Corn Palace.

Diplomas and Honors
Honor designation at the time of the graduation ceremony are based on a student’s CUM GPA at the conclusion of the fall term. Degree honors will be reflective on diplomas based on a student’s CUM GPA at the conclusion of all program requirements. High Honors is 3.75 or higher, and Honors is 3.50 – 3.74.

Diploma covers will be issued at the graduation ceremony. Diplomas will be mailed by June 30 to students who have successfully completed all program requirements and have taken care of all financial obligations. Students completing their program requirements at the end of the summer term, will receive their diplomas by the end of September.
