Telecom Technician Challenge

In partnership with the SDTA we are pleased to announce our 2nd Annual Telecom Technician Challenge to be held during the 2011 SDTA Fall Outside Plant Workshop in Mitchell at the Highland Conference Center.

Competition -1 will be held Monday, December 5, 4:30 pm, Competition -2 will be held Wednesday, December 7, 4:30 pm. Awards will be given to 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd and 4^th place in each event along with a plaque for the best All-Around Technician and the winning team will earn bragging rights and a team plaque. Awards will be announced during each wrap-up session of the fall workshop. Last year’s winning team from Interstate Telecommunications Co-op of Clear Lake SD included technicians - Mario Guzman, Mike Hubbard and Chuck Harming

What better way to celebrate your profession and promote the quality work you do, then a friendly competition among peers. We have worked with industry partners to develop challenges which technicians are asked to perform on a regular basis.

Each technician will complete three timed challenges, "Are You Smarter Then A MTI Telecom Student" a team event will be held following the individual competitions.

Individual Technician Challenge Events:

1. 25 pair Cable Termination (66 Block or 110 Block)

2. Fiber Fusion Splicing and OTDR testing

3. Cable Assembly (Cat 5e, Cat 6 straight, crossover)

4. Are You Smarter Then A MTI Telecom Student (following individual competition)

This is a free event for all who participate – Registration can be done on-line below or at the conference; however, technicians will want to read the attached event rules ahead of time.
