A Message from the Board Chairman

Gopal Vyas
Gopal Vyas
Board Chairman

The Mitchell Technical Institute (MTI) Foundation Board has the four following goals:

  • Recruit new Foundation Board members to increase the Board size to a full complement of 15 associates,

  • Provide a support structure for the MTI Alumni Association,

  • Carry out a multi-year Strategic Plan for the Foundation in tandem with the Mitchell Technical Institute 5-year Strategic Plan, and

  • Design and Implement Major Gifts Fundraising Initiatives.

The MTI Foundation Board continues to seek trustees for the board due to terms expiring for three board members on December 30, 2004. These new board members will complement current board members who represent the MTI Alumni Association and the areas of telecommunications, engineering, law, finance, banking, agriculture, health care, construction and electronics.

The Foundation Board and staff work in consort with MTI Alumni in promoting the MTI Alumni Association. Of the more than 12,000 individuals who have graduated from MTI since its inception in 1968, over 8,600 have now been identified with contact information and categorized. Of the 35 past student body presidents, 29 have been located. Working in conjunction with MTI, the Foundation will develop communication linkages with these graduates for the purposes of Institute and Foundation networking, information dissemination, promotion, marketing, learning opportunities, partnership-building and financial support.

Additionally, members of the MTI Foundation Board and staff work closely in carrying out the Institute’s Strategic Plan. This collaboration is viewed as important as this plan will guide the Foundation’s activities through the summer of 2007.

Most importantly, however, the Foundation Board has embarked on an ongoing fundraising initiative designed to raise $300,000 for endowed scholarships for MTI students. The initiative is comprised of two fundraising strategies:

  1. To establish $25,000 Corporate or Family endowments that would generate annually twenty new $1,000 scholarships for financially disadvantaged and/or academically exemplary MTI students.

  2. To increase the number of MTI Foundation Greene Society donors ($500+ in annual giving) from its present number of 25 to 100 members.

The Foundation’s goal in the immediate future is to design and implement a fundraising effort that is manageable, appropriate for the community and region, flexible, time conscious and successful. Upon the achievement of this fundraising initiative, the endowed scholarship fund will reach the $700,000 threshold providing thirty $1,000 Foundation grants to MTI students each year. In the long run, our objective is to develop a Foundation that assists Mitchell Technical Institute in reaching its long-term goals and objectives to ensure that all students receive the best technical education available. This is the Foundation’s underlying principle; this is the Foundation’s pledge.
