Educating People, Empowering Communities

To retain and improve the quality of education at MTI, we have embarked on a capital campaign, “Educating People, Empowering Communities.”  With these funds, we will accomplish a number of goals, including the completion of a campus-wide move, enhancements to programming, the incorporation of leadership development coursework, and increased scholarship funding.  Details of the projected investments are as follows:

1. Program Support:

  • Lab equipment and technology-based teaching aids
State-of-the-art instructional aids, including lab equipment, are critical to delivering technical education in the classroom. These teaching aids will also allow for the expansion of MTI’s online offerings, including the web-based instruction of certain lab exercises.  Increased online offerings allow MTI to break through traditional geographic and demographic barriers, enhancing opportunities to reach more students, and to positively impact South Dakota’s workforce.

  • Faculty development
The strength of MTI has always been its faculty and staff.  However, it is consistently challenged in keeping quality faculty and maintaining competitiveness with industry.  With additional funds, we will continue to attract and retain knowledgeable and experienced instructors to provide top-quality education to students.

2. Leadership Academy

In response to the need for greater leadership skills in the workforce, MTI’s intensive, mentor-based program will offer South Dakota business and industry a resource for molding its next generation of organizational leadership. The program blends professional instruction with job-based development and can be tailored to meet the specific demands of a company or industry.

3.  Scholarships

Increased scholarship support will allow MTI to reward a greater number of deserving, qualifying students at a higher level.  Educational industry studies reveal that a well-funded scholarship program focused toward incoming students is one of the most effective marketing tools available to a higher education provider.

4.  Campus Completion

Much of MTI’s campus has relocated to the new highly-visible Interstate 90 location, however, the Trades Center has not yet been finished.  Upon completion, all classrooms and administrative offices will be conveniently located at this site.

We hope to raise these funds through the generosity of local individuals, businesses, and organizations within and associated with related industries and those interested in the general welfare of our state’s economy.  These projects make up Mitchell Technical Institute’s $6.4 million capital campaign.  When the campaign’s investments are finalized, students will enjoy a number of new features designed for better, more convenient, and more efficient learning.

With your help, MTI will continue to transform people through skill development so they can fill the high-demand positions our state needs, earn a good living doing it, and help develop South Dakota’s economy.  Please join us in this effort!
