News: MTI Named a "Great Place to Work"
- 7/30/2013
Mitchell Technical Institute is being recognized for its commitment to providing one of the top places to work in the United States.

For the first time, The Chronicle of Higher Education has listed MTI as one of the best colleges to work for. The results, released Monday in The Chronicle's annual report on academic workplaces, are based on a survey of more than 44,000 employees at 300 colleges and universities.

An independent survey of employees was performed this spring, with MTI earning high marks for its commitment in several workplace categories.  MTI was among 97 institutions that earned the "Great Colleges to Work For" recognition.

"This recognition is a tribute to the work environment we have worked hard to foster and support," said Greg Von Wald, MTI president. "It also reflects our commitment to sustaining a quality work environment.  We ask a lot of our faculty and staff and it’s a great validation that they enjoy their work lives with us.”

Richard Boyer, principal and managing partner of ModernThink LLC, the firm that administered the survey, says “It’s easier to be a great workplace during good times, but it’s when times are tough that the commitment to workplace quality really gets tested. And those institutions that measure up during times of economic hardship reinforce their already strong cultures and put even more distance between them and their peer institutions for whom they compete for talent.”

MTI’s listing from the "Great Colleges" survey is just one of many recognitions it has received recently including an Aspen Institute Top 10% ranking and a 22nd place ranking on the Best Colleges list.

"The Chronicle’s reporting shows that more colleges and universities are seeking ways to improve their workplaces,” said Liz McMillen, editor of The Chronicle of Higher Education.  “The ‘formula for success’ continues to evolve, yet there are certain common features among institutions that achieve significant levels of worker satisfaction. The Great Colleges to Work For program allows our readers to learn about the colleges that seem to be getting it right. Great Colleges is more than a ‘marketing’ opportunity for colleges -- it is an authentic example of accomplishment.”
